Listening Session: “Black Elegies in Sight & Sound”
In-Person Event
Friday, September 3
6:00 - 7:30pm, MASS MoCA (B11.2 Swingspace)
Join Dr. Kimberly Juanita Brown, guest-curator of the second CARE SYLLABUS module, “Black Elegies in Sight & Sound,” for an evening dedicated to the potentials of close listening. A selection of musical performances spanning genres and eras will help our community explore how Black artistic traditions create protective enclosures for moving within and beyond mourning and loss.
Dr. Brown is Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing at Dartmouth and author of The Repeating Body: Slavery’s Visual Resonance in the Contemporary (Duke University Press).
This event is free, thanks to the generous support of the North Adams Artist Impact Coalition.
